Power-of-Attoney documents issued by the Romanian Consulates
Did you know? You can request a notarised and fully legal binding power-of-attorney document at one of the Romanian Consulates in the UK (i.e.: in London, Edinburg or Manchester)? The power-of-attorney deeds are redacted by the consular staff and authenticated by the Romanian Consul, who is a public notary/solicitor. You generally need a power-of-attorney if you have a property in Romania, a company, family members you want to mandate to help with legal documents locally, and it’s simply the best option if you don’t want to travel frequently.
Would you believe it if I tell you the consular fee is only 3£? Yes! Here’s the entire list of consular fees. This is entirely true, the consular staff and notarised documents are financed by the Romanian government.
Why spend a high amount of money for a notarised document that needs to be legalised with the Hague Apostille and translated into Romanian in order to be used in Romania? Not to mention that not all power of attorney deeds are recognised in Romania! Only the public notaries registered both in UK and in Romania can issue these bilingual documents. This is very sensitive mainly for sale/purchase agreements or wills/inheritance processes where this document needs to be accepted by a public notary or will executor in Romania.
The Romanian Consulates’ staff is doing a fantastic job and can help you get this document almost for free.
Here’s what you need to do:
Ask the person or notary public that will use this power-of-attorney in Romania for a draft of the document that the consular staff can use to create your power-of-attorney.
Send me the document in Romanian and I will translate it into English. You will need the bilingual document when booking your appointment. Note: if you only know what type of document you need, the consular staff can also work on one of the templates they use frequently.
Create a profile on the Embassy portal: https://www.econsulat.ro. Note: If you need help (the portal is in Romanian only; you can translate it though with a browser extension), don’t hesitate and get in touch with me. I can help you fill in the information.
Once you have my translation, you will be able to upload the document, together with your passport, the ID of the person you will mandate, and the necessary documents (depending on what the power of attorney is for). The consular staff will first check the documents.
After you receive their confirmation that everything is okay, you can book an appointment at the Consulate of your choice. Note: the consular staff comes back to you generally in 2-3 days.
At the Consulate you will need a Romanian sworn interpreter (one of the interpreters on the official Embassy’s list) to interpret for you during your appointment. If you decide to go to London and decide to work with me, please in touch with me first so that we can pick a couple of eligible dates. We can then proceed to book a date. Note: you will only be able to change this date/time once!
The day of the interpreting, you will need to bring your documents issued in Romania (the original hard-copies) and your passport. The consular staff and the Consul will take care of the rest for you. I will be there to support you all the way! This will super easy.
